A heartfelt initiative is taking center stage at Robinsons Galleria, where a non-profit organization, Pinoy Aksyon, has opened an eye-opening exhibit. Titled "Not One Inch: Our Seas, Our Hope," this showcase, entirely run by volunteers, invites visitors to delve into the various dimensions of the West Philippine Sea issue. The exhibit is available for exploration until November 23, with the exception of November 19.
Launched on November 13, the exhibit is a visual journey into the lives of the fisherfolk in Masinloc, Zambales—a coastal community directly impacted by the West Philippine Sea. Through compelling photos, videos, and narratives, visitors gain insight into the challenges faced by communities reliant on the sea for their livelihood.
The exhibit doesn't stop at personal narratives; it offers a historical timeline stretching from pre-colonial times to the present day. As visitors progress, they'll encounter a symbolic "tunnel," representing the journey through time and the evolving struggles faced by those connected to the sea.
Highlighting the ecological importance of the West Philippine Sea, "Not One Inch" collaborates with esteemed institutions like the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Through documented evidence, the exhibit emphasizes the region's rich marine ecosystems.
Despite the 2016 ruling by the International Permanent Court of Arbitration, declaring China's maritime claims baseless, the Philippines continues to face challenges in the West Philippine Sea. "Not One Inch" serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing hardships, urging visitors to reflect on their role in preserving our maritime heritage.
More than just an exhibit, "Not One Inch: Our Seas, Our Hope" is a call to action. It invites everyone to understand the complexities of the West Philippine Sea issue and encourages collective efforts to safeguard our seas for a hopeful future. Visit before November 23 to be a part of this impactful narrative.
